ICD Grant Support Helps Bring Oral Healthcare to Children with Disabilities in Kenya
We are proud to share the successful completion of our Kenya outreach program at Umoja Disability Centre (UDC), made possible through the generous support of the International College of Dentists (ICD) Section VIII.
With the support of the ICD grant, Village Dental Outreach was able to provide essential oral healthcare services to children aged 5–10 years living with disabilities in Nairobi. The outreach focused on improving access to dental care through oral health screenings, emergency dental treatment, preventive education, and the provision of oral hygiene resources.
This project was developed following the postponement of our planned Uganda outreach due to unforeseen circumstances. With ICD’s understanding and support, we were able to redirect the approved funding towards another community in need, ensuring that the intended humanitarian goals of the project could still be achieved.
Working alongside Umoja Disability Centre, local healthcare professionals, volunteers, and community partners, our team was able to deliver care in a meaningful and sustainable way. The involvement of local dental and health professionals also helped strengthen continuity of care, ensuring that children requiring ongoing treatment could continue to receive support beyond the outreach visit.
We are incredibly grateful to the International College of Dentists (ICD) Section VIII for believing in our mission and supporting our commitment to improving oral health access for underserved communities. Their generosity has helped transform a planned outreach into a successful program that has created healthier smiles and meaningful impact for children and families in Kenya.
